Senior Web Developer (OtherFab)

OtherFab is a San Francisco based hardware & software startup in the heart of the Mission District. We care about widespread public access to digital design and manufacturing tools. We believe that software experiences should be seamless, and community is the foundation for meaningful customer relationships. We are looking for an experienced software engineer to lead the development of a multi-faceted online community.

Required Qualifications:

  1. 5+ years developing scalable applications for web and/or mobile.
  2. BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  3. Strong experience developing both frontend (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and backend (SQL, message queues, caching).
  4. Python or Ruby experience with an MVC-based framework.
  5. Ability to create quick software prototypes to test usability and feasibility and allow for rapid evolution of ideas.
  6. Desire to learn new tools and languages quickly and do self-guided work.
  7. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Deployment with services such as AWS and/or Heroku.
  2. Experience in Android/iOS native applications.
  3. Demonstrated interest in learning new techniques through applied building.
  4. A love for physical making, whether building your own bike or wiring up your own interactive art piece - we’re a group of people who like to get our hands dirty!

Key Activities:

  1. Develop and scale an awesome online platform for the maker community.
  2. Take an active role in feasibility analysis and implementation planning.
  3. Code backend architecture as well as frontend user interface.
  4. Experiment with new technologies to integrate web, mobile, and machine-specific technologies into a seamless workflow.
  5. Collaborate closely with a multi-disciplinary team of designers, technologists, and community developers to create a virtual workspace people love to use.
